In order to keep pace with Emerson‘s line of elegant Ingraham cabinets, Zenith also contracted Ingraham to produce cabinets for a few of their models. These sets are hard to come by these days, but if you are lucky enough to find one, you will see they are some of the classiest radios with the highest quality cabinets around. And this one is a perfect example.
The 1941 6-D-526 ‘Long Distance’ table radio featuring a museum quality cabinet, superior craftsmanship, streamlined curves, stunning wood grain, eye catching inlays, ivory ‘Z’ knobs, wave magnet loop antenna, and outstanding performance on the AM broadcast band.
Cabinet:The dark walnut cabinet is simply stunning. Virtually flawless. The ’hump back’ waterfall design is very unique and quite the attention getter. Gorgeous flowing wood grain runs throughout the set complimenting the flowing curves of the cabinet beautifully. Two gold pinstripe inlays run across each side of the cabinet and add a classy touch. Vertical grill louvers and a jet black base finish this set off with pure elegance. This beauty is sure to be the main topic of conversation no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in.
The Cabinet’s Finish: All of our radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process using a minimum 12 coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners. We use anitrocellulose piano lacquerwhich is applied through a professionalHVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. A 1000, 2000, & 4000 grit wet sanding follows every third coat. Thecabinet is finished off with a three step polishingprocess endingwith an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into theseradios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful cabinet with gorgeous luster & shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the house or office.
Dial/Knobs: Zenith’s famous black dial is in perfect condition. All numbers indicating station frequencies are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. A new dial lamp was installed and lights nice and bright. The large ivory ‘Z’ pointer is also in excellent shape and turns nice and smooth around the dial. Both ivory ‘Z’ knobs are in great condition and work as they should; on/off & volume and tuning.
Electronics/Chassis: The6 tubechassis has been electronically restored and playsgreat. All caps, filters, and resistors have been checked and replaced as needed. All tubes have been tested and brittle wires replaced. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed and re-aligned for optimal performance. I‘m able to pick upmany stations, near and far,on theAM broadcast band using just thebuilt in wave magnet loop antennawith sensitive reception andplenty volume.I will include a 30 day warranty on the tubes, caps and filters.
