Morrison had to have served at least 6 years in the Minnesota National Guard prior to 1899 when he was discharged, as he wears two service strips on his sleeve. He served with the 13th Minnesota Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish American War and Philippine Insurrection. He was discharged in 1899 and filed for a federal invalid pension in 1899, which was granted. The photo has a painted back drop of a Filipino village.
Herbert Arthur Morrison was born on July 30, 1878 in Reynolds, Minnesota the son of James Albert Morrison and Sophiana Morrison. In 1885 the Morrison family lived in Long Praire, Minnesota.
Morrison was living in Melrose, Minnesota when he was mustered into federal service.
Morrison was mustered into federal service on April 29, 1898. Morrison was mustered out of federal service on October 3, 1899.
Morrison lived in Gerlach, Nevada in 1930 and in Honey Lake, California in 1935 and 1940.
Morrison died on January 19, 1941. He is buried in Lassen Cemetery in Susanville, California.
