If you want an great sounding old Italian violin for a modest price, this is your chance!
This is avery fine violin of historic significance. The violin was purchased in Amsterdam from Max Moeller about 100 years ago as a Guarneri. The owner was friends with the famous violinists BronislavHuberman and Jacques Thibaud who loved the violin. However, it is not a Guarneri. Experts have determined over the years that it is an old Italian violin, made in the middle of the 18th century, but they cannot decide on a maker. It was possibly made in Venice.
The violin has multiple repairs on the back, which are all steady. The sound is glorious. No wonder the greatest violinsts of those times loved it! The length of the back is 35.6cm,. The violin has recently been taken apart and serviced. It therefore looks great with all the original varnish, but unfortunately also the old back repairs, which have no negative impact on the playability.
Because of the condition the violon is not being offered for top dollar.
We are now teaming up with violin maker and restorerMICHAEL WELLERwho has now his workshop in the Violin House of Weaver in Bethesda, MD. Mr. Weller will make adjustments if necessary. We will have access there to a large inventory.
