Old Town Penobscot 16 Royalex Canoe Local Pick-up Only:
$700.00

We are moving in about 3 weeks! This is going to be shown in our garage sale the next two weeks so offer now! Check out the other things we\'re selling...I bought this new (one picture has the serial number) and used it 5 times just day tripping in some local lakes, Champlain being one.... I just racked it and forgot it for all these years until two weeks ago. It is a 1998.Today I washed and 303\'d the hull and the only single blade paddle I ever bought, a rare and hard to find BARTON S/L graphite bent shaft which is included.
My wife and I were kayak professionals and owned an ecotour business in Mexico for 15 years, we know paddlecraft. It was the reason we bought the best canoe we could find back then.
You might do a search online for the Penobscot 16. There are engaging and accurate reviews for this model in Royalex which is no longer made, part of the reason for holding its value. It is a common chat subject among canoe bloggers both for the material and the model. It weighs 60 pounds and is very manageable.
The real joy of Royalex is that it holds its shape when pushed hard which makes it very efficient to paddle. If you are unfortunate enough to submerge and wrap it around underwater structure it can literally be kicked back into original shape, saving you at least in theory a long wet walk to your intended pull-out.
It is stiff enough to stand up on while casting without need of duckboards. I never carried much gear except fishing stuff and a large cooler but the fans of this model claim it runs better loaded for extended camping with multiple paddling positions.
Royalex is a lot warmer and much quieter in the water than other hull materials I\'ve paddled. This canoe is symmetrical, same both ends, and can be paddled delightfully either way, unlike the bulk of modern canoes. I think it tracks very well and is a pretty fast hull. I paddled it solo once with the Barton, with my wife 4 times with 210 cm kayak paddles. The multiple hull pictures will zoom so that you can see the insignificant scratches on either end and on the mid-ship hull. (Sorry about that bird poop, missed me by about 3 feet! I\'ve been hit a number of times... after all those years of guiding its not hard to believe.)
This Penobscot 16 is in excellent used condition. The interior is nearly pristine, the varnish job on the basket seats and carrying yoke are original: in my opinion they are \"like new\" but could use a light single coat of urethane. I think the later models were made with nylon web seats which were not as attractive or as easy on the butt. The gunwales I could have scrubbed better for the pictures...
It\'s a FANTASTIC deal starting at $700 with paddle, land corkscrew and two 6 lb anchors included. These boats sold for $1800 when they were available, the Barton paddle is no longer made but when they were they cost around $160. LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY or delivery within 250 miles by arrangement for agreed price, probably around $250. PAYPAL or cash when you come to pick it up! Be smart, offer now, get this one: you will never need another.
