ANTIQUE SETH THOMAS MANTEL SHELF CLOCK

Up for sale is this fine Seth Thomas Octagon Top Cottage clock circa 1860\'s. The case is made of Rosewood veneers with a few chips along the lower side edges. It has a rare and early 30 hour time and strike Lyre movement as well as an early lyre alarm movement in the lower left hand side of the case. The time and strike lyre movement keeps good time, and counts out the hour on a coiled gong. The lyre alarm movement rings when wound and is appropriately set. This lower reverse glass is seldom seen and in exceptional condition. The original zinc dial has been professionally repainted.The alarm hammer broke off at some time in it\'s life and was soldered back in place. It works fine. These are very minor problems here for a nice original clock like this one. It is one of my favorites.
The price of the parts is well worth the opening offer on this fine piece. This is a very nice clock. Please look carefully at the pictures that I have provided as they document the condition of the clock as well. I have described this clock to the best of my ability. All antique clocks are sold \'as is\' unless I state in the listing that I have completely overhauled the movement.
While packing the clock, I noticed a circle inscribed on the lower front panel at the base of the clock. I am wondering if someone in the past wanted to add a porthole to show the pendulum swing. It is hardly noticeable....I have been looking at and winding this clock for decades and only saw it today.
This antique clocks is sold \'as is\' as I have notpersonallyoverhauled the movement. It has been running well in my home for years! I lightly oiled the movement before listing it. Due to the fragile nature of old clocks, I do not combine shipping unless the clocks are sold for parts.
