Original Cornell - Dubilier capacitor from 1951 Fender nocaster:
$58.00

Hello, people. This is a Cornell - Dubilier capacitor from a 1951 Nocaster guitar. This was my personal instrument for fifteen years until my finances forced me to sell it. This guitar in particular was made in august of that year. It had survived through accident, fire, flooding, parts changes, etc. just to keep it going. This is one of the parts that was replaced when I was doing some experimenting, but somehow misplaced, and forgot about until recently. The original neck was destroyed on this guitar, and a subsequent \'52 telecaster neck took its\' place along with a rewound neck pickup, replaced switch, jack, and wire along with this capacitor. After I refinished the guitar I rewired it for other types of effects when I removed this capacitor. It works, but I only have a cheap Radio Shack volt-ohm meter that goes from one side of the meter to the other - it does this with anything that has a lot of power to it, or parts that can\'t be read simply without the aid of a different meter. Originally this should read somewhere around 0.5mf. (microferads). I don\'t know if the value has drifted, but it should still be usable. It worked when I used it, and checked it last (right before posting this sale). I\'ve taken 360* view point photos so that you can see this in its\' entirety. This way there are no surprises, or hidden damage that you don\'t normally see with just one, or two photographs. THIS IS ORIGINAL - NOT A REPRODUCTION!You can see that there are some differences from this capacitor, and the illegal reproductions that are floating around on all the time. First: one end of this has a folded over edge which these only had for a little over a year. This is crimped, and waxed as is. Second : there is also the extra dark brown strip in the back for extra durability once wrapped before being dipped in paraffin. This was a feature that disappeared some time between 1951, and 1952. My guess as to why is either slightly thicker paper used later, or production methods/speed changed about this time. Third: this is one of the few C-D capacitors that has these features with the pre-tinned leads. Before this time they were bare copper leads with the aforementioned attributes. Fourth: these are 1\" (one) inch long, and 3/8\" of an inch in diameter. Somewhere after this time they became slightly shorter, but you\'ll see this later size on the reproductions all the time. Also worth mentioning: is that these had somewhat sloppy stamping on the letters ( slightly fuzzy, rounded edges) from the lithograph machine that you won\'t see on the reproductions no matter WHO makes them. This has some staining that you see from time to time since it\'s so old, and has been through a LOT! I don\'t know what causes this, but I have seen it on unmolested Broadcasters, and a few Esquires. My guess is the dielectric oil used in the manufacture of these leaks out a little bit into the wax discolouring the paper. This may also contribute to the the lettering on these being smudged from time to time. Either that, or a faulty printing machine that leaked a little bit of ink, but was used anyway? This doesn\'t seem to be a problem for the later fifties versions. Also - this may be a little darker, or lighter in person depending on your monitor settings, as well as the camera flash which makes the wax more translucent on the one end than it truly is in person. This makes the end (without the overlap) look darker than it really is. I can\'t tell you any more than that. I left a little solder on the ends of this for easy installation in your guitar. I was hoping to use this for a restoration someday, but that will never happen now. This is the very only, and last one that I have to sell. After this it\'s just gone forever. My loss is your gain. Please consider this when offerding: there are a lot of copies, but only a very few originals that come up for sale once in a while! .99 cent starting offer with . I know that these normally go for ridiculous starting offers, or buy it now price, but I just want to see what this will go for (at sale end), or simply what it\'s worth to someone else. Get it before it gets away! TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF saleI can\'t issue a warranty, or anything relating to warranties, or guarantees that this will work in your guitar a certain way, or that it will \"look cool!\", or impress your friends, (buyers\' remorse), etc. Please ask any, and ALL questions BEFORE YOU PLACE A offer! This is sold AS IS, and NO RETURNS, OR REFUNDS ON THIS ITEM FOR ANY REASON!! USPS shipping only. Good luck, offerding. Thanks for looking.
