I bought this Soumak during ethnographic expeditions in remote villages of Daghestan.
Soumak was selected by me personally from a great number of other rugs as precicely example of decent quality, ethnographic value and visual interest.::CONDITION

Soumak just pass trought the local village hand wet clening process on the bank of mountain wildwater river. No dust or dirt. Ready to use at home or to show at exebition.
If you find it not clean inaf for your purpose, you can give it to professional cleaning workshop at your home town.
As other handmade rugs, caucasian soumaks is complicated item with many aspects of handmade technology and quality and it is difficult to give full and total describtion in words.

Soumak (Soumakh, Sumak) Rugs are a type of Oriental rug belonging to the family of flat weaves. The technique of making a soumak involves wrapping wefts over four warps before drawing them back under the last two warps. The process is repeated from selvedge to selvedge. Soumaks tend to be finely woven, and although not as durable as piled carpets, they are stronger than kilims. They are made in the Caucasus, Russia.

The Daghestan is a republic of Russia, located in the North Caucasus region. Its capital and largest city is Makhachkala, located at the center of Dagestan on the Caspian Sea.
