PAIR 19C FRENCH 2 COLOR BRONZE & MARBLE TAZZA WITH FIGURAL MEDALLIONS
This listing is for a pair of 19th century French Grand Tour two color bronze and marble tazze or compote. The pair compotes are from the Louis Philippe to Napoleon III period. They measure 7 ¼ inches or 18.5 cm high including the base, and the tops measure 8 ¼ inches or 21 cm wide from handle to handle.
A tazza (Italian, "cup", plural tazze) is a shallow saucer-like dish either mounted on a stem and foot or on a foot alone. The bases are circular black marble with golden bronze rims. The bronze tazze have at the base swags of flowers and ribbons, with a column form base. The bowls each have a two color bronze bas relief medallion in the center. The first has two women's head in profile. The second has an outside setting with three figures in it. Each has two handles on the bowl as well. The bronze tazze are in a dark chocolate brown, and mellow golden patina or color, the patina is all original. The bowl and base are held together with hand cut screw and nut, which attest to its age.
They are in very good condition. The bronze is all in excellent condition, the marble bases have a couple of flakes on the upper and lower rim. Please see the many photos for more on the look and condition of this nice set of Grand Tour bronze tazze.
