PINE RIDGE POTTERY SOUTH DAKOTA SGRAFFITO ASHTRAY, ELLA IRVING:
$36

PINE RIDGE POTTERY
SOUTH DAKOTA
INCISED SGRAFFITO ASHTRAY
BY ELLA IRVING

In the remarkable, admirable and singular pottery history of Pine Ridge, here is another great piece, this time in the now coveted sgraffito technique with a Native, geometric design, for which Pine Ridge is now best known, having been the only ones to do this. Here, the motif, I believe, is thunderclouds and mountains.

The ashtray stands about 1.75" tall & is about 4.5" wide at its shoulders. It is hand-inscribed on the bottom with the pine trees & hills cypher, "Pine Ridge Sioux" and signed by Ella Irving.

There is no damage or repairs. There was some kiln over-firing in the final clear glaze, which you can see in the pictures, but due to the flash, this appearance is somewhat exaggerated. It's really not objectionable. Doubtful this was ever used as an ashtray. It's in great condition.

If you collect Dakota pottery and/or Pine Ridge, you know these aren't around by the thousands or even hundreds. South Dakota had but two real art potteries in its history, and the illustrious, determined, talented ladies at Pine Ridge made their distinctive mark in all of American art pottery. Gotta love it.

PAYMENT:

PLEASE NOTE: PLEASE DON'T CHECK OUT VIA THE CHECK-OUT LINK UNTIL YOU'VE HEARD FROM US. SHIPPING THERE IS AN ESTIMATE, AND WE USE ACTUAL SHIPPING CHARGES TO YOUR ZIP CODE, WHICH IS OFTEN LESS. We will notify you via email of your total including insurance, which is mandatory. Payment is requested within 10 days of sale closing. We'll send two reminders to nonpaying buyers before reporting an unpaid item dispute. This isn't meant to be a dispute, but is necessary to report in order to relist the item without additional fees. Payment via PayPal.

SHIPPING:

PLEASE NOTE: We do add a $2.50 per shipment packaging fee as we do not use much in the way of recycled trash to ship. We are happy to combine items to save on shipping wherever possible. We ship via UPS, and all shipments are automatically insured for $100. Insurance for items over $100 will be added automatically and included in your total. We do not ship to PO Boxes unless the buyer has adequate response. We'll notify you when your item(s) ships and usually provide the UPS tracking number as well, so you can track it online if you wish. We ship quite readily and promptly. Please note, we've compared UPS vs USPS Priority Mail countless times. Even USPS Flat Rate with any insurance and/or delivery confirmation is usually about the same and often higher than UPS.

BIT MORE:

Please note that we do take numerous pictures of our items, not all of which are posted in the sale. If you want other pictures, let us know. Be advised that we do take pictures of singular characteristics that other pieces like the one posted would not have. This is to avoid switches and false claims and keep the safe and fun place we all want. We safely and securely package our items. In the unlikely event of damage or breakage, please let us know immediately. Unfortunately, filing an insurance claim is the responsibility of the buyer. We go to great lengths to describe our items and point out any possible condition issues. If we've unintentionally missed something, we will refund your purchase price. We do not sell fakes and reproductions. Nonpaying buyers will earn the "nonpayment strike." Returns are not accepted unless we've unintentionally misrepresented the item.
