Gorham & Watson Co. Sterling Silver Footed Cobalt Glass Lined Salt Cellars w Spoons
  • Pair antique sterling silver Gorham & Watson Co. pierced open master salt dishes with four applied ball feet, blue cobalt removable glass liners and original sterling silver spoons.
  • History of Maker: The spoons were made by Gorham in Providence, Rhode Island and the salt cellars were made by Watson in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The spoons are original to the salt cellars and go together.
  • Each comes with sterling silver miniature spoon marked sterling with maker’s marks with numbers on them . The numbers on each spoon read “H205”. The marks are so tiny (three symbols in a row). First is a lion facing right, an anchor and a mark resembling a G like letter. The 3 markings are identified as Gorham and date to last quarter of 19th century. See Images as I tried to capture all markings.
  • The Sterling outer tray is also marked sterling with a mark resembling a wreath like symbol, Embossed are the numbers “4457” and “sterling” on both pieces.
  • Both the glass inserts and sterling silver outer holders appear to be handmade consistent with age and craftsmanship of these beautiful pieces. There is a miniscule (mm) in size roughness on each of the cobalt glass inserts and appear to be manufacturing flaw consistent with workmanship and age. Overall these salts are in impeccable condition. Lovingly cared for from a wealthy Boston estate.
  • Sterling silver outer holders each measures 2 ½” in total length left to right and 1 ¾” width (top to bottom) and Each salt measure 1 ¼” height. Cobalt glass inserts 2 ¼” in total length (left to right).
  • I weighed the silver, which includes the outer sterling salts with the sterling dishes for a total of 1.6 ounces altogether.
Outstanding pieces in excellent condition. New owner will be very happy!
