RARE 1960'sArkansas Traveler Aluminum STORE BOAT Model
This sale is for a rare 1960's Arkansas Traveler Aluminum Salesman Sample Boat Model. I believe these were displayed in stores where Arkansas Traveler boats were sold. This boat could be a certain model but I do not have that information and is build to scale I believe. This boat is fun to display and is just the right size for your vintage toy outboard motors (A Johnson outboard motor would look great). This boat has wear and tear but has lots of character. "Arkansas Traveler" is imprinted on both sides of the boat. The boat has it's original blue paint. There is some black paint drips on one side and on the bottom. There is one white paint smudge on the bottom. There are 3 missing screws along one side that hold the top of the boat to the bottom (easy fix). The bottom has some ripples. The details on this boat are great and this would make a nice addition to a vintage toy boat collection. SIZE= 16 3/4" long x 2 1/4" high. Please refer to the pictures to help determine the condition. I hate to let this go but I need to let a few toys go. The last picture shows this boat with a Speed boat motor I have listed in another sale. This sale is for the BOAT ONLY. NO MOTOR.
This is some of the history of Arkansas Traveler. If you are lucky to own one of these boats this toy model would be fun to own.
Arkansas Traveler was a brand of boat made by the Southwest Manufacturing Co. of Little Rock, Arkansas, from 1959 to about 1967.
Southwest Manufacturing Co., a division of the Standard Railway Equipment Manufacturing Company, manufactured utility, small working and leisure boats in both aluminum and fiberglass, power by outboard motors. The company had manufacturing plants in Little Rock, Adams, Wisconsin via subsidiary company Traveler Manufacturing Co., Ltd, in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
The 1960 product line included utility boats from 9 to 14 feet LOA,
sport utility and sport runabouts from 14 to 16 feet LOA, and day
cruisers from 15 to 18 feet in length. Construction techniques used
included through hull riveting with pounded rivets. The boats were
available in a variety of configurations ranging from bare bones
outboard with tiller controlled direction to units with a center console
The boats were very durable, and many are still in service today.
