Fresh from a fine Texas estate comes a rare and wonderful vintage art deco era solid 14K gold double floating opal lariat necklace. The floating opal pendant was invented by a mechanical engineer named Horace H Welch in 1921. The necklace measures approx 16" long with the pendant drop measuring approx 2 3/16" long x 7/8" wide(each floating opal pendant measures approx 7/8" long x 7/16" wide). The clasp is marked "14K" and the caps on the pendant are marked "14K PATS. PEND." It appears that a small amount of fluid has leaked out of one of the pendants over time. I don't feel that this affects the overall look or wearability of the piece. Aside from that, the piece is in excellent condition free from damage. A rare and wonderful example of an early floating opal necklace.
