Rare Cahoy Pottery Large Mug/Stein with Lid, HAND SIGNED ~ Colome South Dakota:
$112.00

Emil Cahoy (now deceased)was a farmer who lived just outside Colome, South Dakota. This pottery was made with a formula created by Emil Cahoy from clay found six feet underground on his farm. It took him three years to perfect this mixture of clay and sand. The pottery is fired to a very high temperature of 2150 to 2160 degrees making it stronger than regular pottery. The process also creates a beautiful and unusual swirl effect in the pottery. The natural color comes from the minerals in the soil and varies in shades of brown depending upon the firing temperature.

The mug/stein stands 6” high. The diameter of the mouth is 3” wide.

Brown and cream swirled exterior, cream color inside. Banded design around top and bottom of mug (see pictures).

HAND SIGNED on the bottom: Cahoy S.D. 1979

In perfect condition, no chips or cracks.
