Rare Gas Station Tool - GLASS HYDROMETER W/Thermometer & Floating Steel Chart:
$74.99

This is an extremely rare piece of gas station equipment from the early years. It is museum quality. Patented July 26, 1927.

It is an anti-freeze hydrometer with a thermometer and floating can chart from Allstate, Simpsons - Sears.

That’s a yardstick in the first picture showing its length. Over all its about 31” long.

From the bottom up.

The siphon tube is 11” to the glass to siphon tube connector.

The connector has printed “Pat. No. 1985456” and “Other Pat’s Pend”.

“E. Edelmann & Co.”.

The unique glass thermometer measures 13/16” wide and is 3” long.

It has a scale from 60 °F to 180 °F on the front.

The backside says “ALLSTATE” “Made in the USA” “Ser. No. 932-1” “Anti-Freeze Tester No 7739” “Sears Roebuck & Co., USA” and “Simpsons-Sears Limited”.

The thermometer to hydrometer reducer has a few tiny aging cracks but nothing that would keep it from working and you really have to look to see them.

It measures 1 ½ x 1 ½”.

The upper glass tube is 9” long and 1” wide.

The actual floating hydrometer has the alphabet scale in white and yellow.

Now the really fun part, the floating can chart (slides outside the glass tube).

On the edges are printed “Red figures – below zero temperature” and “Black figures – above zero temperatures”.

The opposite side has “Ser. 1005”.

1st side has “Methanal type anti-freeze”

“Tack” – “Zerone” – “Nor’way” – “Super-Pyro”

“Thermometer reading °F” – “Freezing point °F”

“Float reading 60 to 180 Float reading”.

A through M on the chart.

2nd side has…

“Ethylene Glycol Type”.

“Prestone” – “Zerex” – “Peak”.

Same chart as other except the chart letters are N through Z.

The bulb is 4” high by 2 ½ “ wide and on the end is molded “Pat. July 26, ‘27”.

“No. 1687219, No. 7340”

And “Sept. 6 1927”.

This piece is in extremely good condition for its age. There are no cracks in any of the glass, the siphon tube or the bulb. It cold probably be taken apart to clean the inside of the tubes but I like the used look.

The floating can is showing some light rust on the top and bottom of the can but the printed charts, thermometer and hydrometer are near perfect, even the top vent stopper is in place.

Don’t miss this very rare piece for your vintage gas station museum or collection.

This is a one of a kindpiece.
