RARE GERMAN DEEPLY & ORNATELY CARVED ANTIQUE BLACK FOREST CUCKOO CLOCK ca 1930:
$222.50

We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currentlylisted along with an equallylarge number of music boxes and other verynice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at ourother items!

This is an outstanding find of an absolutely stunning, beautifully and deeply cuckoo clock that was created in the Black Forest of \"Germany\" about 90 years ago. It is one of the finest carving examples I\'ve seen in an old clock and is one of the most uniquely-designed clocks I\'ve seen. It measures about 12 1/2\" at its highest point (not counting the weights, chains, or pendulum), about 5\" at its deepest point, and about 8\" at its widest. The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden woodthat is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the BlackForest. Linden wood was the choice of better carvers in the Black Forest back in the day. The case has a beautiful blended finish and is designed to look very much like an old farm chalet on top with the forest as the backdrop here as well as below. The bottom carving also features a water powered mill and a carved wooden deer; gorgeous clock! The wooden dial has a black backdrop, and features large, easy to read, raised Roman numerals to mark the hours and fancy matchinghands to point out the time. The clock has a fitted wood back and is secured with a metal latch. The door easily removes to allow access to the very early, weightdriven, rack style mechanical movement that is one of the first produced by Regula though it only says, \"Patent Pending\" on the movement. A weight driven movementsimply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind theclock and cuckoo activity. The tall bellow tubes are in goodshape and the tops look and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour,a colorful wooden bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nicesounding chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos/chimes the current number of hours before retreating to the safeconfines of the inner clock; fascinating! This clock also has a neat old feature not found on newer clocks...there is a braided cord extending down from the movement and it has a brass ring on the end. When pulled, the clock cuckoo activity advances a half-hour which is a great way to recalibrate the clock in case it is interrupted for some reason. The clock works quite wellhere, keeps good time, and cuckoos as it should. Keep in mind this is an old clock and we do not know the service history though the movement does show signs of having been maintained over the years. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its newhome. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preservethis classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, an ornately carved wooden fir pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metalweights. I\'ve looked the clock over fairly well and found no missing parts or repairs. I did find a few chips here and there but it\'s truly not a detraction; breathtaking on display! It isvery impressive and in a league all on its own. It is a wonderful nostalgic look back at the greatness of Black Forestworkmanship and is certain to turn heads when displayed in yourhome, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase avery nice, rare, hand carved, antique German timepiece with a real legacy behind it. offer with absolute confidence; I have no doubt that you will love this clock!
