Rare Jonah Kumalae Ukulele-- Gold Medal 1915, vintage 1920s & 1930s with original case.Purchased new in Hawaii by my husband’s parents who were collectors, not musicians, it was never played. With a revival of interest in the 1950s my husband, then 12, wanted one, so they gave it to him. He wasn’t a musician, either.Rarely played, it spent most of its life in the original case. The inlay around the opening and outer edge is pristine and has no missing pieces. It has the original wooden pegs, which are all in tact. It’s not even dusty!Made of Koa wood, and, though never in an accident or damaged, this one has two cracks—one in the front and one in the back--which I understand are typical because these ukuleles, fragile and lightweight, are prone to them over time. You can’t see them in the photos, but I’ve been told by musicians and the man at the music store, that these are easily repaired by a luthier of your choice and will not affect tone or value.

The cracks are hairline cracks, and while I've tried to photograph them, they just don't show up. The one on the front is about 4in long, the back - 6in long.
