Rare Thompson Colorado Assay Gold Scale w/ Assay Ton Weights

Offered is a very hard to find antique assay gold andprecious metal balance scale. Made by Thompson Balance Co., Denver Colorado.

Has a wooden base and drawer, with a polished brass body. Basemeasures about 11 inches by 6 inches by 2 ½ inches. Assembled height is about10 inches. Probably dates to the early 1900’s. Stirrups have extensions forriders, for improved accuracy. One set of riders is included, in the originalbox. Also comes with two sets of pans, as found.

Set disassembles and fits into wooden holders in drawer.

Comes with a complete set of rare assay ton weights in theoriginal box, made by Christian Becker.

This also comes with two assay certificates, as I originallypurchased it. One is from an assayer in Cripple Creek, for a sample taken in1903, and the other is from a Denver assay office. I do not know if thisspecific scale was used to test these samples, only that these items weretogether when purchased.

The scale is complete. The grooved holder inside the top ofone of the stirrups is loose and tends to fall out; (both of the groovedstirrup holders are metal, rather than agate as found in some scales). The woodenbase has some light wear to moderate wear and surface marks. Weights are in excellentcondition, and scale is in very good condition overall.
