The DX-160 Radio is an excellent candidate for a Do It Yourself capacitor upgrade. It is uncluttered, well organized, easy to work on and with the service manual, well documented. This radio was built from 1975-1980 so every example is over 30 years old. Most sources consider 30 years to be the outside life expectancy for Electrolytic capacitors.The Electrolytic capacitors in older radio equipment lose capacitance with age, most of these capacitors are in the power supply stage of the radio. Many of the capacitors I have removed of this vintage (Late 70\'s) only have from 30 to 50% of their original values left, that is the ones that are not shorted or open. This upgrade will improve the function and reliability of these fine radios and extend their useful Life. I recommend this for any DX-160 owner to restore the radio to like new performance. And the project is a pleasure to do with basic soldering tools and skills. This is an excellent entry level repair project.
