This listing is for a pair (2) of our solid precision hog-out billet machined SDX773 welding cable lead reels.
We often hear horror stories of lead insulation melting down and an unfortunate welder losing hundreds of feet of expensive lead due to using live reels made from steel. No inefficient hot running thin wall steel parts are used in our DX reels. Superior construction using only precision solid billet machined heavy cross section components made from highly conductive materials allow our DX reels to run much more efficiently and cooler than live steel reels. From customer feed back we knew our reels performed well. To see how well, we tested the top selling economy steel reel and the top selling high end steel reel against ours at an independent Lab. The results we saw were stunning with a dramatic difference in temperature rise. Un-spooled the top selling steel reels had 11 to 14 times more heat rise at 400 amps DC for 15 minutes, and even with the effects of induction heating and 100 feet spooled 2/0 lead, the difference was very significant.
We don\'t recommend welding with spooled leads, but if you do, steel spools, are more likely to spell disaster for your cable. With AC oscillating current and steel spool magnetostriction, the odds of a meltdown are further increased
