• Description: A beautiful fine or much better banknote from Portugal. This is the 13 January 1925 five Escudos. The banknote has a gray colored design on yellow or orange and light blue colored background. It depicts the portrait of D. Alvaro Vaz d\'Almada within a circle at lower center of the front. D. Alvaro Vaz d\'Almada is a well known illustrious Portuguese knight and nobleman who lived in the period 1390-1449. The back is green in color showing the arms of Portugal in the center. The note was issued by the Bank of Portugal. The note has two signatures on the front as well as the denomination, date and serial number. This particular note has the serial number 04589, which is displayed in black on the front of the note but not on the back. The back also displays the denomination but not the serial number. The banknote has a watermark consisting of the name of the bank repeated throughout. Please carefully view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.
   
• Date: 13 January 1925.
   
• Printer: Although not marked as such it is known to have been printed by Waterlow & Sons of England.
   
• Size: The banknote measures ~5 5/8\" by ~3 1/4\".
   
• Pick Number: P 133.
   
• Condition: I would grade this banknote as a good fine or better with all the details being still preserved. This is an attractive note showing evidence of handling and wear. It has several of folds both vertically and horizontally as well as some general wrinkling. The note\'s paper has general soiling which darkens the note and makes the colors a bit dull, but they are still there. The paper itself is limp and the note appears to ave been flattened. The edges of the note show roughness and several nicks along them. There is also small tears all of them are short and do not reach the design. The corners show wear and considerable rounding as well as some creasing and folding, but are essentially intact. The note show some minor pinholes especially in the center which are a result of excessive folding. It has no graffiti and no appreciable staining. This is a nice example of this scarce banknote that is worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
