Scranton DOCKASH GLOBE PARLOR STOVE 1877-1890s - EXCELLENT Condition Antique (1865- 1890s) Scranton GLOBE DOCKASH Parlor Stove No. 515 - Excellent Condition
This antique parlor stove -- (that measures ~56\" high x ~23\" wide x ~23\" deep) -- has been in my family since its purchase several generations ago, and has all original parts -- including its original ash pan! Also, its nickel trim is original, AND my family has kept this stove is top condition by polishing it over the decades. It is rare parlor stove manufactured by The Scranton City Foundry and Machine Works (Finch Manufacturing Company - see background information below) in the 19th century. Very few of these wonderful parlor stoves remain, and those are valued and kept by their owners: If not for a lack of space this great antique cast iron parlor stove would not be at sale.
This DOCKASH GLOBE No. 515 parlor stove is handsome, not garish, and very well designed, with several draft adjustment locations, as described below and shown in the attached images ...* The finial dome is hinged and slides away to reveal a cooking surface that serves double duty as a humidifier when a pot of water is placed upon its heated top. On the back of the stove\'s top, there is a sliding door draft adjustment* The front door on the upper chamber of this stove swings open for placement of wood, or coal, and has a primary draft adjustment. And, decorative nickel plated fenders (is what we\'ve always called) surrounds three sides of the stove and, when the stove is in use, disperses additional heat into the room * The wood/ coal grate remains in tis original location between the upper and lover chambers of the stove* The stove\'s lower chamber has as a swing-away door with two additional primary draft adjustment areas. AND, the original ash pan continues to rest in its original place on the bottom of this chamber!Further, this lovely parlor stove has not been used in decades, is clean, comes from a smoke-free home.
background\"One of the very earliest industries in Hyde Park, PA was the Scranton City Foundry and Machine Works (Finch Manufacturing Co.) established along the railroad north of Lackawanna Avenue, in 1855 by A.P. Finch, prominent for many years in Hyde Park business and civic affairs. The Scranton Stove Works, which later relocated to Dunmore, first began in Hyde Park in 1865, was originally located on the southerly side of West Lackawanna Avenue between Seventh Avenue and Dockash Place:\" The latter location, Dunmore, became the Scranton Miner\'s Baseball team\'s ballpark, which, in the mid-50\'s the ballpark was torn down for the construction of an A&P Supermarket. Thus, the original location of the Scranton CIty Foundry gave rise to the name of their parlor stove line, \"DOCKASH.\"Also, an member contacted me and provided the following information, William McClave invented the Dockash grate in 1877.
