Set of 2 Avon 1876 Cape Cod Ruby Red Glass Dessert Bowl 1982 New DescriptionThis listing is for a vintage Avon 1876 Cape Cod Collection 5.25” diameter dessert bowl, circa 1982. The Cape Cod Collection is styled after the classic Roman Rosette pattern of the early American pressed glass called Sandwich Glass. In 1974, in an effort to compete with Princess House and Tiara, Avon introduced its first dinnerware line. Avon turned to Wheaton Glass to make this new dinnerware, since they were already making decorative decanters for them. According to Avon, this pattern was based on an early Sandwich design and was inspired by the lacy delicacy of the classic Roman Rosette pattern. Not only does it recall the beauty of this quality glass, but its name commemorates both the spirit of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial, which celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the area where Sandwich glass originated. As a result Avon chooses to call their new dinnerware, the 1876 Cape Cod Collection.The 1876 Cape Cod Collection was introduced in 1975. The first two pieces were the tall candlesticks and cruet. Avon continued to add new pieces to the collection each year while some items were discontinued at the same time. The last year of production was 1993 with the cup & saucer, bread & butter plate and pie plate, being the new items that were made. During the next couple of years, orders still could be placed for any item still in stock but no new pieces were made. Gradually the inventory was depleted and 1876 Cape Cod Collection was officially discontinued in 1995. Once production of the 1876 Cape Cod ceased, the moulds were stored back in the Wheaton mould shop. We are listing several pieces from the Cape Cod Collection. Almost all of them are brand new and have never been used or removed from the box before we removed them for inspection and picture taking. Any used pieces will be clearly identified as being used. The glassware itself is pristine and looks brand new (as it is). The boxes show varying degrees of wear, from mild wear to fair condition, caused from years of storage and moving. Though the conditions of the boxes vary from “old stock” to looking like an old and used box, all are still sturdy and hold their integrity to safely pack the glassware. They are just not in good enough condition for gift-giving.
Condition: The bowls are brand new and have never been used. They are in pristine condition. We currently have 4 bowls. One box is in fair condition with considerable wear. The other three are in good condition. All boxes have some box wear from storage. Additional Information:International buyers: We offer at least two shipping options for you.
