Small, portable and robust, the Concert Shruti Box sets the standard for sound quality, craftsmanship and ease of use. It has taken us several years working with one of India\'s finest instrument makers to develop and refine this Shruti Box to the instrument it is today.
Each instrument is hand-made using solid woods chosen for their acoustic properties. The body is made from teak which produces a full-bodied, resonant tone. The reed-board is made from Burmese teak, a hard wood with excellent tonal clarity and definition. High grade metal reeds are fitted in all our instruments. Every aspect of our instrument has been considered from the quality of the smallest brass screw to the type of finish and its effect on the sound.
The Concert Shruti Box uses a double-sided sprung bellows design. This makes the instrument easy to play, while providing a smooth sustained drone sound with good volume control.
This particular instrument is being sold in C tuning. (However, you can also choose from A# and Low G tuning.) The chromatic scale is based on A440 concert pitch. The instrument comes with a bag in charcoal grey.
Tonal range: One octave - 13 tone chromatic scale from C3 to C4 (piano equivalent). Each of the thirteen reeds are individually tuned and voiced. Pitch: A=440 standard concert. Sound: Features brass light-gauge reeds for a responsive, bright and full tone with characteristic subtle harmonics (often described by players as a \'warm\' and \'pleasing\' sound).
