Before World War IIlabelswere used to mark travelers luggage to show where they are headed. As internationaltravelfor vacations rapidly declined due to the war, travellabels for roads, hotels and popular travel destinations became popular to collect on road trips. During this time period they were used to decorate travel cases, steamer trunk luggage, cars and other travel supplies. Many believe they caught on so fast because they where some of the first self adhesive labels that were available to the general public.Labels before that required a special application process.
