SOAPSTONE CARVING- GEESE - Canadian, signed \'Dimu\", Inuit/Eskimo?:
$14.95

INUIT SOAPSTONE CARVING
\"Two Geese Carving\" DESCRIPTION~ Here is a nicely carved and polished soapstone utilitarian/decorative carving probably made by a Canadian Inuit/Eskimo that has his signature scratched into the back- \"DIMU\". I am listing a small collection of these soapstones, most of which have a decal label on the back which says only \"Handcrafted Soapstone- Canada- Le Steatite\" (Steatite is the official mineral name for soapstone and I presume also the French word for Soapstone). These discs (I call them hockey pucks) do not have this label, only the artisan\'s name. The whole collection was probably purchased at one time from one shop somewhere up there in the far north woods.

The carving is of gray streaked soapstone, a disc 2-3/4\" wide, and 1/2\" thick. Two flying geese are scratched into the top surface. The piece weighs almost 6 ounces and was probably intended as a paper weight or decorative item on a desk or table. It sits flat..

Email with any questions or if you need more details. If you contact me through to just ask a question, be careful you do not accidentally open a \"complaint case\"- choices are not clear.
~CONDITION~ Fine. No damage I can see on front carved side. Typical primitive drawing. Back side has uneven areas along edge. Minor scratches (the surface of this very soft stone had a coating of a clear lacquer type of material to guard against wear and scratching). I will be listing several other pieces by this artist in the \"series\".
~PAYMENT, SHIPPING, PACKING MATERIALS~ As you probably know, the wise rulers of have recently decreed that payment via their own company, PayPal, must be made available for ALL items sold on . PayPal will be happy to accept your credit cards and echecks. I am not allowed to list other acceptable methods of payment, but recent info on the site says that if a buyer emails me wanting to pay using a method other than PayPal, (and that method is acceptable to me) they may use that method .

Shipping in the USA:The current postage cost from Central Florida to your door will be displayed near the top of this sale page. The carving will be sent priority mail in a box for safety; it is too heavy for first class. I will be listing several more of these from a collection- win several and save on postage.

Foreign Shipping-Most packages under 4 pounds (about 1700 grams) are best shipped First Class International, the cheapest possible service. However, the prices on all foreign shipping using FCI increased enormously to all countries over the past several years. International Priority, Flat-rate box and envelope prices also had huge increases.

I ship next business day.Try not to be shocked by the prices- sellers are not trying to make money on postage, just need to cover their USPS costs plus cost of packaging materials.Cost also has to include the new 10% postage & handling \"tax\"recentlyimposed by onmy total shipping cost.

- I hate reserves, and bet you do too.Be sure to check my other eclectic sales. COMBINE PURCHASES and save on postage!
