Where to begin?Features: This ivory mesh-and-bead dress is stunning. Cascades of clear, pearled, and steel-colored glass beads cover the entire piece, and are accented by bold steel-colored rhinestones. The design incorporates leaves, ovals, and geometric trails, and is the same on both front and back. The scoop neck, dropped waist, and gathered skirt with scalloped edging are hallmarks of 1920s evening wear. The dress is heavy from the weight of the beads, and sheer enough to require a slip underneath for modesty. Impeccable detailing and free-flowing design that sings the song of the Art Deco era and the \"first wave\" of American feminism-- this dress truly sparkles!Measurements taken with the dress hanging from a hanger, and without pulling on the mesh, are as follows:
Approximately 37.5\" from shoulder to bottom hem.
Top of shoulder to center of drop-waist is 23\"
Width at armpits, torso, and drop-waist is approximately 15.5\" (i.e. the dress is cut straight all the way down to the skirt)
Sleeve openings 6 3/4\", top to bottom\"
Neck opening 10\", strap to strap, on the hanger.
I am a contemporary size 4/6 and the dress is a bit snug around my hips; I\'d place it at a contemporary size 2/4. Damage: The beading is coming loose in some areas, and there are also a few tiny holes in the mesh. Please see photos. I washed this garment by hand when I received it, but it has retained a bit of a musty odor. Overall, pretty good for being almost 100 years old!I would love to see this dress go to a good home. I feel it has a magnificent history that should be honored by continued wear! It does need some TLC but it will look stunning on the right person.I live in a smoke-free home but I do have cats, so please offer accordingly.
