$317.70

Susato Kildare Pennywhistles, L-Series. Set of all 5 bodies, with no comfort keys, and 1 headjoint. (See below for information on comfort keys.)The bodies are in these pitches: low F#, F, E, Eb, D
Choose color: black or brownPlease communicate to us your color preference (black or brown) so we may process your order expeditiously!
(Otherwise we will have to contact you to find out what you prefer.)The Kildare model is Susato’s most popular pennywhistle. We feel it is the best of all economy-priced whistles made today.Comfort keys: Longer whistles, such as those of the L and LX series, as well as the low G whistle in the M series, can be more comfortably played with Susato comfort keys over the ring finger tone holes, which may be too much of a stretch for small hands. (You can see the keys in the photo.) If you wish to add one or two comfort keys, please see our other sales that offer the keys. This sale is for a set of whistles with no keys. Each key adds $20. (If you play traditional Irish music, you may find that the keys make it more difficult to slide off the hole or to use the ornament called a \"strike\" or \"tap\".)All Susato Kildare whistles:
• Have separate head and body sections for easy fine-tuning (a must!)
• Are made of ABS plastic which is highly durable, impervious to moisture, and does not conduct heat as rapidly as metal. The plastic maintains a more stable pitch with temperature changes.
• Have a curved windway
• Have a slightly tapered bore, which contributes to a rich, bright sound and easy overblowing into the higher octaves. The purchase price includes:
1. One whistle head with four whistle bodies, with no comfort keys
2. A vinyl carrying case
3. A fingering chart
4. Three removable thumb rests
5. A tube of joint grease More features of the Susato Kildare whistle:
• Serrated tenon joint retains joint grease much longer and allows for repeatable \'stepped\' tuning changes.
• A rubber -O- ring assures an airtight seal at the tenon joint.
• The adjustable (and removable) thumb rest contributes to secure, comfortable holding and playing.Susato whistles have excellent intonation throughout. For the cross-fingered low flat seventh degree of the scale (i.e. C-natural on a D whistle), the oxx-ooo fingering (i.e. covering only the second and third finger holes, counting down from the mouthpiece) is right in tune. We consider this to be an essential attribute of a fine whistle. Many other brands require more elaborate fingerings for an in-tune low flat seventh note.Susato Kildare whistles have the quickest finger and articulation response time of all the low-priced whistles we have tried (including the Susato Dublin and Oriole models). This speed of response becomes increasingly important as you evolve as a player.Susato whistles are designed by George Kelischek and manufactured in his shop in Brasstown, North Carolina, USA. They feature a number of innovations that result in a truly excellent instrument. These whistles are easy to play, with a responsive sound that professional musicians prize. These whistles are very popular in Ireland, the US and many other countries. For pennywhistle instructional materials, we recommend Grey Larsen’s book/CD packages:
  • The Essential Guide to Irish Flute and Tin Whistle
  • The Essential Tin Whistle Toolbox
