As you see this is a Suunto clinometer, model PM-5/360. I have owned this for about 20 years but it\'s been in a drawer for the last 10 or so. I\'m a cinematographer and used it, along with a Suunto compass, with a program that ran on a scientific calculator that allowed me to figure out the angle of the sun, any day, anywhere. Obviously that technology has changed a great deal!
The clinometer comes with its original pouch. It\'s never been dropped or abused, and actually I used it lightly since I was often filming on stages.
HOWEVER: the indicator dial is slow to respond and sticky, and may not even be accurate. Apparently this can happen with age, even if the unit is sitting in a drawer.
So I am saying straightforwardly here: IT IS NOT IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. Yes, it NEEDS REPAIR. (Unless you have the \'magic touch\' with these, which I doubt.)
Suunto\'s US service facility is called Forestry Suppliers. They offer a repair/refurbishment of these for a flat fee of $78 + shipping. I have spoken with the repair guy there, and he simply opens the unit up and replaces the capsule. After that, you get a 2 year warranty, like a new unit. So at my asking price + the repair, you could have an \'as new\' $150 clinometer for a bit over $100.
