Here is a great piece of American History. This is a USMC G-1 Leather Flight Jacket with a name tag, 2 Marine Corps Patches, and 1 set of black Jump WIngs. The jacket is named to Gunnery Sergeant D.A. Loosman. On the left shoulder, there is a very soft and supple(I believe a WW2 vintage patch) 1st Marines Patch. On the right shoulder there is another early issue 2nd Marines Patch. Above Gunny Loosman's name tag, there is a set of black Airborne Jump Wings. These wings have a bit of wear to the high points, and i believe you can see brass showing through. These wings are missing one clutch, and the back appears to be marked ILC and TG. The jacket is in excellent condition. The leather is soft, supple, is not faded, is not torn, and only has one tiny cut that is hard to find on the right hand sleeve. The exterior pocket buttons are in place. The interior pocket snap is perfectly functioning. The sleeve cuffs are in perfect condition and are very sturdy. The waist cuff too is in excellent condition with only one bit of wear at the front right at the seam. The zipper moves from top to bottom flawlessly. It appears as if Gunny Loosman once had his aviator wings pinned over top of the ones printed on his name tag, as there are two corresponding holes. There is also a bit of a cut to the name tag as seen in the pictures. The size of the jacket is a 42. The jacket is manufactured by Gregory Sportswear Inc. The full tag is pictured above for your review. It appears as if there was once some insignia applied on the underside of the left and right side of the collar. I have pictured this, but i am unsure of what it would have been. The fur collar is real fur, and is in excellent condition as is the rest of the jacket. This is an original issue USMC Flight jacket with 2 rare patches and a rare set of jump wings. The condition is excellent. This will be extremely hard to upgrade. This is wearable, but in my opinion, will be much better for display. This rare piece will add dramatically to any collection.
On a quick search of the web, i found the following information. D.A. Loosman, or Danny, was born on April 27, 1933 in Syracuse New York. He was raised in Oneida, NY and was active in the Boy Scouts of America attaining theRank of Eagle Scout. Danny served in the USMC, served two tours in Vietnam, and retired in 1974 as a Gunnery Sergeant. And, like us, Danny was a collector. Danny passed away in 2003. We are all thankful for his service to his country.
