The bookcase offers three shelves behind two original glass panel doors with lock and key that work. The desk portion is unique in that part of the desk folds out and the other part folds down forming the writing surface and reveling the inside cubbies and drawers. I believe the original velvet in on the writing surface showing the wear of many many years of use. The desk lock works with the same key as the bookcase. Under the writing surface is a large pullout drawer flanked on either side by beautiful cabriole shaped legs with acanthus carved leaves and roses on the knees,the bottom of the leg has a carved scroll design that rest on a fluted half bun foot. The back legs are also beautifully turned. This secretary measures 92 inches high, 42 inches wide, the bookcase depth is 10 3/4 inches and the depth of the desk closed is 21 inches. The knee-hole height is 23 inches, the writing surface open is 42 inches wide and 20 inches deep. The bookcase shelves are 9 inches deep. This secretary is in excellent condition with a repair to the drop down portion of the desk(see photo)this repair seems to be very sturdy and not an issue. This is truly a fine representation of early victorian furniture, would make a grand statement in any room and be a beautiful addition to any home.
