Vintage 1930\'s Shakespeare Sturdy Fly Reel No.1861 Model HB - Made in the USA
- Vintage 1930\'s Era Shakespeare Sturdy Fy Reel
- Light for the time, weighing 4.75oz
- Approximate Frame Size: 3\" x 1 3/4\"
This is a 1930\'s era Shakespeare Sturdy Fly Reel, its frame is stamped \"No.1861\", and also \"Model HB\". Shakespeare advertised this reel, as there lightest weight trout reel, and even today, it still feels fairly light weighing in at 4.75 ounces. Its built somewhat similar to the Martin 61 and 63 fly reels, but the Shakespeare Sturdy has a little bit nicer frame, and handle design. It also has a wider spool which will allow it to accommodate additional line capacity.
This reel is in perfect working order. The spool spins without any rubbing on the frame. The handle spins freely, and its post is solid without any wobble. The clicker on/off switch works, and when engaged the click is loud and strong. The clicker spring is slightly biased towards a left hand retrieve, with less pressure required for line in, than line out. The reel has been cleaned and lubricated with Quantum Hot Sauce Reel Grease, and is ready to either fish or display
Overall this is a old 1930 era reel, that is in great working order, but also shows 90 years of wear on the frame. Its a working survivor that is somewhat rare and collectable. It\'s a neat reel!
Note: This item was relisted. The last buyer used the buy it now option today by mistake 8/30/16, and immediately asked me to cancel the order. I accepted their request, cancelled the order, and relisted.
