Up for sale today is a Vintage 1939 Singer 221 Featherweight Sewing Machine serial # AF388684 manufactured in Elizabeth New Jersey. This machine sports the durable gloss black finish with gold trim and scrolled face plate and is in excellent running condition,still sews smooth and quiet with evenly spaced stitches-pic 8 where it is sewing through a black denim pant leg. It also has reverse stitching. Also included is a bobbin case with 23 bobbins, 2 extra bobbin cases and 5 foot attachments. Two manuals are included, one is for Singer class 66 machines dated 1949 which isn't for this machine but has instructions for using the different attachments. The other manual is called Featherweight 221 The Perfect Portable dated 1992 this gives a short history of the Featherweight, common problems, watchouts, and the original instruction book reprint in the back. Condition is as follows: There are the usual scratches to the work area and some of the gold trim is wearing off on the work side of the machine-pic 9, there is a paint chip pointed out in pic 10 and just below it is a spot where the clear finish has worn through. The case is in rough shape but still very serviceable, the handle has been repaired and one of the latches has one non-original screw. Also the fabric is wearing through in several places.
