This is a toy cannon (howitzer) made of painted stamped metal and wood. It is 5 3/8\" long and comes with its original box. It has a spring mechanism that when wound, shoots small projectiles. The original woodenbullets are missing, but it can shoot toothpicks or other small harmless ammo. It is marked \"PAT PEND\" on the bottom of the cannon. The box is marked: \"THE HOWIE CANNON/ SHOOTS WOODEN BULLETS\". It was made by the Curran Artware Mfg. Co. of Downers Grove, Ill. I learned from the internet that this company made grenades during WW2; when the war ended they had many grenade parts left over and designed this toy cannon to use up some of the spare parts. The toy cannon is in excellent condition and it works fine. The box has wear, soilingand torn flaps.
