Vintage 1965 Gibson Johnny Smith Single Pickup Guitar:
$8060.00

This is a 1965 Gibson Johnny Smith single pickup. It is an earlier model with the original gold knob, beautiful curly maple sides and back, and a tight spruce top. Purchased in 2006 from RetroFret in New Jersey, I am selling it so it will be played more. This guitar is extremely clean with only minor finish wear, very little checking (lower bout and pickguard area), and nicely yellowed binding. There is one professionally repaired top grain split under the pickguard (see picture) that has been stable since it was done before I bought it. The pickguard is custom ebony due to deterioration of the original. The original pickup and wiring sounds heavenly and works well. The frets are in excellent condition. The volume pot is working but is original and should be replaced with heavy use. A ¼ plug adapter is provided for regular guitar cord use. The case is the original Lifton.

If you are familiar with this model you will know the rest, if not I will gladly provide more specifics. The large neck is delightful while the tone and sustain are amazing. Simply put, this instrument is one of the finest acoustic archtops ever made by Gibson. It is alive with tone and the aged woods have resulted in great character. The neck is perfect and the guitar plays effortlessly. Currently strung with round wound 12’s.
