Fantastic vintage seltzer bottle from Amityville LongIsland-great for bottle collectors as well as Amityville collectors alike!
The seltzer/soda syphon bottleis a glass or metal pressure vessel with a release valve and spout fordispensing pressurized soda water. It was a common sight in bars and inearly-to mid-20th century homes where it became a symbol of middle-classaffluence. The gas pressure in the bottle drives soda water up through a tubeinside the siphon when a valve lever at the top is depressed.
The glass bottle is etched with a shield-like mark, which reads, “Suffolk County Bottling Works Amityville L.I.”
There are some chips, scratches and wear along thebottom of the bottle where it comes in contact with a tabletop. The sides ofthe bottle also show scratches, wear and a few nicks. It may clean up furtherusing a small bottle brush on the inside of the bottle. There are no cracks-itis a solid, beautiful and unique old piece.
