This sale is for a vintage H. Selmer (Paris) Bb soprano clarinet. The serial number, 3564, indicates a c.1930 production date. Both joints have the matching serial number, and all four parts have the matching Selmer logo (old style oval logo with eagle wings/lyre above). This is a 7 ring model. It has an extra ring for the left hand third finger, where normally there is just an open tone hole. The ring is there to operate a pad above, thus allowing for some additional fingering options not found on a standard 6 ring clarinet. This instrument is in very good physical condition for its age. I don\'t see any cracks or repaired cracks. At first I thought I saw one above the register key tone hole, but upon closer inspection it is just a superficial scratch. There are some minor nicks on the edges of the tenons, but no significant chips. The tenon rings and bell flare ring are all tight. The key-work appears to be silver plated, and, although dulled from age, it is in good condition. This instrument is in playing condition as is, however the pads are starting to show their age, so they will need to be replaced in the foreseeable future. They aren\'t falling out or anything, and the skins appear to be intact, however they have yellowed somewhat. Serious players will probably want to go ahead and get a re-pad right away. Collectors or sporadic players might find it perfectly acceptable as is since the pads could easily last several more years with only occasional use. Either way, it is playable right out of the box. Speaking of \'the box\', this clarinet comes in a vintage Leblanc case. The case is solid, but not pretty to look at. There is no mouthpiece/ligature/etc. included. This is a very nice example of an early Selmer clarinet!
