The accordion has experienced a come-back in recent years as pop bands and other musicians have taken an interest in the classic instrument. This sale is for a vintage black Cantulia Senorita piano accordion. This instrument is collectible and playable.
This Senorita was made in Germany pre-1955 though exact dating is difficult without dismantling the piece. My best guess based on research is that this one could be 30\'s to early 50\'s. The Musikhaus Teipel and the address on the badge indicates the store was in downtown Koln/Cologne Germany, an area devastated by bombing 1942-43. It is possible this is a pre-WWII instrument. How it came to be in America is a story I would love to know!
Hohner bought out Cantulia in 1954 to eleiminate competition from a company building fine accordions since 1880. The small metal badge is likely from the store where the piece was originally sold. The bellows seems good, the reeds work. The keyboard is good though a couple keys are balky. Buttons are sticky. Cosmetically good in a rare black finish. Has original straps and case. All in all a neat historic piece and one that is a professional tune-up away from being top drawer.
