Early composition comic nodder - this is the larger version. Approximately 5 3/4\" tall. Whimsical figure of a man wearing burgundy pants, chartreuse jacket and impressive gray top hat. Reportedly this figure is a depiction of the comic character \"Mutt\" from the comic strip \"Mutt and Jeff\" created by Bud Fischer in 1907; the comic strip ran in syndication for 76 years from 1907 to 1983. Mutt has hand painted facial details and a wispy mustache. Mutt has a large bobble-nodding head. Some soiling, very minor chips and scuffing but overall in excellent all original condition with no repairs or repaints (see photos). The face is in remarkably good condition (refer to photos). Figure\'s head jiggles and bobs with the slightest movement. Be sure to place Mutt on a safe, solid, flat surface because early nodders are known to tip over. These early figures were sold by street vendors and frequently were offered as prizes at carnivals and amusement parks. They were designed as inexpensive novelties and most were broken and thrown away thus very few have survived. This example is unmarked but assumed to be made in Germany. In overall very solid original condition and will make a great addition to an early nodder collection or as an accent to a display of early comic character memorabilia!
