BluesVintage Guitars Inc. of Nashville, Tennessee is proud to offer one of theabsolute sweetest electric guitars we’ve EVER had the pleasure of handling – anabsolutely gorgeous and 100% original 1959 Fender Stratocaster with anexceptionally rare Dakota Red factory finish from Fender.

To put itas simple as we can put it, this guitar is TO DIE FOR!!! It’s all there, in allits glory … with all original parts … screws, pickguard, pickups, frets, tuners, pots, wiring, case, original Fender strap, ashtray bridge cover, saddles, etc., etc., etc. The list goeson and on and on and on.

And thebest part of it all is that the guitar has literally been sitting in a closet –alongside an all original 1959 Fender Bassman amplifier – for about the last 40years … UNTOUCHED!!! If you’re wondering what happened to the 1959 FenderBassman amp, it was sold to none other than Mr. Ed King, one of the originallead guitar players for Lynyrd Skynyrd, and the guitar player who played theworld’s most recognizable guitar solo (the solo in Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama”).

To be asfrank and honest as possible, this guitar is in NEAR MINT condition. Plain andsimple, there is not another 1959 Fender Stratocaster on the planet that comesclose to the condition, tone and playability of this incredible find. And here’sthe story behind this incredible guitar (and amp).

The twowere purchased together in 1959 by the samegentleman from a music store in southern Alabama. The serial number on the neck plate on the back of the guitar is \"38112\". The original color of theguitar was Fender’s venerable Sunburst finish, and at the time the guitar was purchasedit happened to be the only Fender Stratocaster in the store. However, thegentleman wasn’t fond of that Sunburst finish. So about one year later he tookthe guitar back to the store and had the store owner sendthe guitar back to Fender for a factory refinish. The chosen color was DakotaRed, which was an available Fender custom color from 1958 to 1969. The guitar was returned several months later to the gentleman in itscurrent state, with an absolutely stunning Dakota Red finish that was done byFender at its original factory in Fullerton, California.

If youlook at the neck pocket and pickup cavities, you will see that they are allconsistent with the way Fender was painting their bodies in the late 1950s,using a method affectionately known as the “Lazy Susan” paint method that wasutilized by the company through the mid 1960s. In a nutshell, the “nail” or “pin”holes under the pickguard on Fender bodies during this period were actuallymade from nails that were hammered into the front of the body just prior topainting. Fender would then use these nails as \"legs\" to suspend the body abovethe spraying and drying tables – a technique that was used until about 1964. Withthe nails in the body, Fender would first spray the front of the guitar body asit lay on top of a turntable (this is where the term “Lazy Susan” was born). This allowed the body to be rotated and painted without anyone ever touchingit. After spraying the front, the body would then be turned over onto the “naillegs” and then the back and sides would be sprayed as well. When done, the bodywould be moved to a drying area and left on its “nail legs” to dry. When thefinish was dry the nails would be removed and the body then rubbed out andpolished. As we stated above, this “Lazy Susan” method was used until the mid 1960s, therefore the neck pocket and all pickup cavities of any Fender bodypainted during this time should be fully painted – as they are on this 1959Stratocaster.

Also as stated above, everything else on this rare guitar is completely original. Themarkings – or lack thereof – are also consistent with known Fender history andfacts from this period. First and foremost, each potentiometer on the guitar was manufacturedduring the 20th week of 1959. The pickups have the usual black bottoms and the pickup wire is a very richred copper color which was very common for this period. Additionally, the buttof this particular neck has no writing on it whatsoever, which is consistent with known Fender history and facts from this period. In early 1959, due to a customer complaint regarding an obscenity that was written on the buttof a Stratocaster neck, Fender decided to stop writing any markings whatsoever onany neck butts for the first part of 1959. Manufacturer dates started appearingon the neck butts again sporadically as early as June 1959, and by the end of1959 just about every neck that left Fender’s Fullerton, California factory hadonce again the manufacturer\'s date written on the butt of the neck.

Take avery close look at all 49 high resolution photos below to get a fullappreciation of the beauty of this magnificent Stratocaster. We’ve seen somenice ones over time, but this is definitely one of the nicest Strats we’ve everhad the pleasure of offering for sale. Other than some very light finishchecking on the guitar (which you can see in some of the photos), there are nocracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind on this guitar. It was kept – along withthe 1959 Fender Bassman amplifier – in a humidity-controlled environment andmaintained fairly regularly. Take an especially close look at the headstock, the original Fender decal, the condition of the fingerboard and the nut, thepristine non-tarnished condition of the bridge and saddles, and also the pots, wiring and jack. Take a look at the underside of the black bottom pickups, andalso the condition of the original rubber surgical tubings used between thepickup bottoms and pickup covers. There is also evidence of some writing –probably the initials of the finish color – on the underside of the pickguard, which was typical of Fender to identify the color used for the refinish of theguitar. The writing and letters, however, are not clearly readable. But theyare there, and they definitely add to the authenticity and overall originalityof this remarkable piece of Fender history.

Guitarslike this don’t come up for sale very often. And when they do, they don’t last verylong. The guitar is being offered worldwide through our store, but alsothrough our showroom and contacts here in Nashville, Tennessee. We can tell youthat the guitar has been offered for inspection by some of the world’s topplayers and Fender experts, and all agree that it is one of the absolute finestspecimens of a 1959 Fender Stratocaster in the market today. We urge you to doyour homework and try and find another one that even comes close to this one. This guitaris ready to play every night of the week, or be displayed as the centerpiece ofany serious guitar collection. Personally, we’d prefer the guitar be used tomake music, as that was Leo Fender’s original intention when he produced itback in 1959. There are no issues whatsoever with this guitar. It both playsand sounds exactly as you’d expect – MAGNIFICENT!!! It’s ready to plug in andplay in front of 100 people in a small club, or in front of 100,000 screamingfans at London’s Wembley Stadium!

Asstated, the original rectangle Fender hardshell case is included with this incredibleStratocaster, as is the original black Fender strap and original bridge ashtray cover.
