Vintage Shipbuilder\'s Shipwright Caulking Mallet with Brass and Leather Ends:
$49.95

I will be listing several tools that all came from a Ship Builder\'s Chest that I recently acquired in New England. A great, nice set of tools for your consideration:
Here we have aVintage Shipbuilder\'s Shipwright Caulking Mallet with Brass and Leather Ends. This is a uniquely shaped Caulking mallet. Never saw one like this! It has a bulbous central body that is turned down on the ends, which are then very nicely fitted with thick brass reinforcing ferrules. The striking surfaces are covered in leather and are tacked in place. Has a very nice vintage look to it! The head is 5-3/4\" L and is 3\" wide at the bulbous part. The ends are 2-1/2 \" in diameter. The brass ferrules are 1-1/2\" wide and have nice cove work to fit it to the head. There are old cracks in the head and a chip at the top but the head is rock solid! I\'m guessing it\'s made out of Oak. The handle looks like an Oak replacement. This is a 14\" long tool that weighs 2 lbs.. Good surface patina.Nice historical marine tool !
\'Apologies\' - none.
