Up for sale here is a gorgeous Vega Standard model trumpet. I believe this trumpet dates back to the 1920\'s, though I could not find a serial number directory for this brand. Serial No. is 25199, made in Boston MA, has a 1915 patent date. Beautiful trumpet from an aesthetics perspective, with a strong silver plate finish, mother-of-pearl inlays on the keys, and an ornate engraved metal logo on the bell. Comes complete with the matching mouthpiece (George Model 2), mute, sheet music clip, and purple felt case.
Condition is definitely above average for a trumpet of this age, but there are several flaws to point out. Firstly, there are 2 re-weld points on the trumpet: 1 on the support bar between the 2-part tuning slide, and one on the little knob attached to the rear tuning slide. The first segment of the larger tuning slide is jammed, perhaps why the support bar was snapped in the first place in an attempt to get it unstuck. There are small dents scattered throughout, but none of them too distracting or large. Some patina that would come off in a thorough polish/cleaning, especially inside the bell. Spit valve pad was replaced and is fresh. The mouthpiece has wear and some surface dents. The mute is intact, including the 3 cork strips, though the logo is a bit worn out. Case has expected wear to the exterior, including scuff, veneer loss, and a few chips, along with some noticeable fabric fraying on the interior where the top half is hinged to the bottom. The handle is missing most of it\'s leather veneer. No key for the case.
This is a good playable vintage trumpet with all 3 valves moving smoothly. With a little work on getting that tuning slide unstuck, this would make a fine, perfectly working RESERVE
