Vintage YORK & SONS SAXOPHONE Alto Silver Jerome Sale Agents Complete In Case :
$109.99

Up for sale is a very cool old silver plated alto saxophone. This is a low pitch model thatwas made by JW York and Sons. The bell also reads Clr Jerome Grand Rapids Mich Sale Agents. This saxophone comes in the original case. It has its original leather strap, the plug that goes in the top when the neck is out, the music holder, the neck and the mouth piece. This also has some vintage wood reeds, fingering chart, and other misc items.
The fingering char is \"Fingering Chart for Saxophone compliments of Pan-American\" It is copyrighted 1935.
The green box is really cool. It is a \"Perfecto\" emergency kit for saxophone. Everything in their looks brand new like it has never been used. It has a bunch of vintage pads and a cork.
There are 4 individual reeds in their paper cases and one in the large gold crown reeds case.
I do not know what the yellow cloth thing is.
The leather strap is vintage. It shows wear, but doesn\'t seem to be splitting anywhere. It is still pretty supple.
The music sheet holder is tarnished. It shows wear. It is really neat though, that it pushes down on both sides. Both springs work good.
The saxophone measures about 28 inches long. The bell is about 4 5/8 inches across. It is nice and compact. There is a considerable amount of silver wear to the saxophone in all different places. There are even a couple little spots of green tarnish here and there from the base metal. I do not see any dents on this saxophone. With very close inspection I did find that one little soldering point came loose that attaches one of the cross bars that protects that valves. It is down towards the base by the bend. It is hard to notice, but it is there. The other side is firmly attached. This in no way affects the playability of this sax. All of the buttons spring back up nicely except one that is sticky. I believe it just needs cleaned. It feels gummy. Its the single small button that is locatedbetween the 4 large valves that work together at the base opposite of the bell. My girlfriend played this a little, and it has a very nice tone to it; maybe because it is the low pitch. I was in band growing up, and have been around a lot of instruments; this one just has a cool tone to it. I don\'t know how else to describe it. Maybe its the metal. It could be solid brass under this plate. Once again I don\'t know, but I do know the most heavily worn areas are shiny yellow. The neck and mouth piece lock in good. The plastic on the mouth piece has some discoloration. I don\'t know if this is like a water deposit, or some type of buildup, or just the way the plastic has done over the years.
I believe this saxophone to be from the 30s. It has a lot of copyrighted stuff from that time period. I am pretty sure it hadn\'t been played since the 40s. When I got it home it had newspaper put in all the closures. Some of it had ads for war bonds. I am pretty sure that these were only sold after pearl harbor. If I remember right, before this time they were defense bonds; then after the war they quit selling them.
The saxophone is marked low pitch on the back and its serial number is 22806. Its a really neat old sax. If you have any other questions be sure to ask. I am always happy to answer. I love how everything is there. Kind of like a 70 year oldtime capsule.I really hope whoever gets this sax plays it and doesn\'t just collect it. It has a beautiful tone that should be enjoyed. Please refer to pics for condition as well. What you see is what you get.
I almost for got the case. It is small. It only measures 24 x 10 x6 inches. It is a black leather style. It shows wear commensurate to its age. Some of the handle is coming undone, but it closes good and actually latches.:)
