Antique Folding Convertible High Chair

~ by Walter Heywood Chair Company New York~

with Maker Mark

~*✿*Circa 1800\'s*✿*~

For your consideration is an old antique high chair by the Walter Heywood Chair Company, New York, from the 1800\'s that folds up and down to convert from a high chair to a stroller. The maker mark is underneath the seat, reading \"Walter Heywood Chair Co. New York\". Part of his first name is missing, however, the \"r \" is still visible in his first name. From my research, Walter Heywood was the original founder of the business, as he began making chairs mostly by hand, in 1826 and was later joined by his brothers in the chair making business, which in time became known as Heywood Wakefield. Walter sold his interest to the Heywood Brothers in 1841. Walter Heywood died in 1880. These are a few facts that I have gathered from the internet. I found its very difficult to find anything with Walters name on it. This rare find has lots of character with the carved wood back and spindle design wood. Also complete with four iron wheels. It folds down to become a stroller by maneuveringa lever underneath the seat.

What a treasure!

- Condition -

Very nice condition for it\'s age, expect normal wear as associated with an antique item. The seat has some stress cracks in it.

Structurally sound and the folding mechanism is in working order. The iron wheels have a rusty patina and do not currently roll. Wood looks great with just the normal typical marks from age with some variation in the stain finish.

Please see photos and ask questions if necessary.

Thanks for looking!
