Antique GUNTERS SURVEYOR\'S CHAIN/LINKS for cross country land surveying. In the chain I have pictured, there are 66 all straight links, that are 6\" each, therefore the distance measured is 33 feet. Two times the measuring device pictured equals 1 chain, a British Unit of measure equal to 66 feet. The measurement equivalents continue from this point for a furlong, mike, acre, etc. This form of accepted measurement for surveying came to be in 1620 by Edmund Gunter. This old measuring chain pictured is in excellent condition with all 66 links straight and true. Two large 3-1/4\" diameter drag rings on both ends. Yes, our lab is 33 feet away on the pictures.
