These are very early \"A\" heads that must have been for the first year or two of the 40 HP. VW engine. The head casting is different from the later \"A\" heads at the valve cover surface near the intake port, this is why 40 Hp. valve covers have a cut in them. If you\'re restoring an early Beetle or Bus these are the ones. I think these castings are different because VW used up the castings they had around for the 1959 VW Bus bastard motor that didn\'t work out. Also the \"A\" head\'s intake manifold port is smaller.
