This is aORIGINAL World War 2 Japanese naval samurai sword.NOT one of these chinese fakes you commonly find on now days. Its signed by its maker "Takeyasu" who made swords for the officers of the Japanese Imperial navy. The sword has a 24.5" cutting edge and the overall length is 37.5" when sheathed. The blade has no rust and is in good war time polish.It does haveseveral scratchs and slash marks in certain areas, possibly from another sword??? seethe photos. The temper is straight and is contious throughout the length of the blade. The handle and scabbard are in excellent shape. The scabbard is not cracked or dried out like you see in many naval scabbards. It has the double hanger for the higher ranked officers as compared to single hangar scabbard. Wrap on the handle is excellent and the handguard parts and spacers all have mathing numbers. Whats really interesting about this sword is it has the original surrender tag tied to the scabbard. It looks very descriptive with all the writing but I don't know what it all translates too. I do know ithas the originalvalue of 500 yen for the sword. To compare it to other values a 1903 colt pocket pistol and a browning 1911 cost 100 yen back then, and a baby nambu pistol (top prized officers pistol) went for 180 yen.
