You are offerding on a piece of Naval history a WWII USN AVIATORS FLIGHT LOG BOOK - RECON IWO JIMA. This log covers the aviation exploits of Lt. JG John Kyes of Rescue Squadron One stationed in the Pacific. Log begins with trianing stateside in December 1942 to deployment as air sea rescue in the Pacific Theater flying armed seaplanes such as the PB2Y3. Log includes many "dumbo" (search and rescue) flights including details of a B-24 rescue. Also includes entries of photo missions during the battle of Iwo Jima. One entry regarding having his plane sunk by Japanese. Ends in 1948 when he was assigned to Oakland NAS in a Patrol Bombing Squadron. Also included are various documents such as 1941 Student Pilot License, USN ID card, and equipment/uniform issue log. Log is in good condition, easily readable and intact. A nice piece of WWII history.
