From my personal collection: a restored Wade & Butcher 7/8 near wedge razor with new honey horn scales and bone wedge. Made in Sheffield, England before 1890. As is typical of these big Victorian-era Sheffield razors, the steel is excellent. It is very hard, takes and holds a keen edge, and the quality of shave is superb. They are the only type of razor that I personally shave with anymore.
This razor was restored by Dave Florczak (daflorc) with new honey horn scales and bone wedge, and the blade polished. It has been pinned using brass washers and pins with brass bearing washers installed between the blade and scales to eliminate binding during opening and closing. The blade has a nice polished finish that sheds water readily; there is very minor shallow pitting on the spine that was not polished out. The tail is long and thin with a distinct curl to it. It is an excellent shaver!
Fully shave ready, it has just been honed using the following progression: Naniwa Chosera 1000 grit, relatively fast antique Belgian coticule, slow and smooth\'La Verte\' Belgian coticule, then finished on a vintage Escher. Initial stropping consisted of 60 laps on linen followed by 200 laps on English bridle leather. The razor has been test shaved after honing; then stropped, cleaned, disinfected, and oiled.
