WATKIN\'S LAZY SHEET METAL \'\"H\" PLATE - LOOP WRAP PLATES - ANTIQUE BARBED WIRE:
$2.99

This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of wire fencing. This wire features a Wm. Watkins patent dated November 21, 1876. This wire is called \"Watkin\'s Lazy Sheet Metal \"H\" Plate with Loop Wrapped Plates\" by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 711-B - VARIATION).(Hagemeier shows the \"H\" plate barb but not the Loop Wrapped Plate variation. This would be considered a \"factory irregular\". This wire features two twisted together line wires... Barbs are four pointed made froma sheet metal plate. Plate is cut with a point at one end, and a Vee at the other. The pointed end is cut with two parallel slits, and resulting tab of metal removed. The crotch of the Vee end also has a straight area between points. Barbs are laid horizontal (lazy position as in cattle branding) with the line wires, and barbing points twisted with the line wires. In normal Watkins both line wires would lay in the Vees of the barbs, in this variation one line lays in theVeesand the other line loops around the barb. . Wiresample is 18\" in length. Wire shows age and use wear with light pitting. There are two barbing plates, well spaced, and cut iswell centered. There is some bending of points, but no broken or missing points.Wire is in good use condition.

Thelast photo shows the wrap on this barb compared to a normal Watkins wrap. This photo is for comparison only, and listing does not include the normal Watkins.
