Here is one (1) Western Electric 242A tube. This tube is either new and unused, or itis used with very low operating hours. As I cannot be certain that it is new and unused,please assume that this is a used tube.
I acquired this WE 242A tube from the son of a long-timeham radio operator. I was told that this tubehad been on display in a jumbo 4-pin tube socket in his home and later in his son\'s home for many years, and that it was never used or removedfrom the socket during that entire time.The small scratch on the brass tube baseis from my removal of this tube from the jumbo bayonet tubesocket. I have the original tube socket used to display this tube, and it isnot included as part of this sale.
The glass envelope is very clear, and the large silvergetter is as you would find on a new WE 242A. There is no rainbowing,discoloration, or reduction in the size of the silver getter, and there are norattles or loose particles inside the tube. The brass base is secure to theglass envelope.
As I do not have the equipment for testing larger audio andtransmitting tubes, I am unable to test this tube in operation, so my testingwas limited to testing the filament for continuity, and the filament testsgood. I also tested for filament-to-grid and filament-to-plate shorts, andthere are none. I have no way of testing this tube any further than these tests.
